SOMA Bodywork

  • What is SOMA?

    SOMA Neuromuscular Integration®

Certified SOMA practitioners are trained at the Soma Institute for Neuromuscular Integration® in Buckley Washington. The goal of SOMA is to embody people with a profound connection to self through balancing the human structure's connective tissue system or myofascial network within the field of the Earth's gravity. Soma is a distinctive form of Structural Integration and in the late 1970's became the first of many off-shoots from Rolfing®.This bodywork modality is done while clients are clothed in shorts and a sports top.

  • Benefits of Soma

The benefits Structural Integration (SI) are experienced in personal and unique ways. In general though everyone who has spent time attending to their muscles with stretching knows what "SI" work can feel like. A well-executed thorough stretch can "open up" range of motion and create far-reaching effects throughout the body. A single stretch can feel amazing and alleviate tension that resides in areas of the body far away from where the stretch was. SI work zeros-in on and expertly lengthens all the bodies stuck areas creating four specific qualities of rejuvenation. Please read about the four benefits of Soma Neuromuscular Integration®.

If  you are new to the methods and principles of Structural Integration, I hope you will enjoy my article: If mental floss prevents truth decay then what will cleaning between your muscles prevent? Published Summer 2007 Living On the Peninsula Magazine and share it with someone you know. Many people who read this "see" how SOMA Bodywork may be valuable for someone they know or finally realize why their own bodies are less than comfortable.

  • SNI® Series

The SNI® Series is a systematic and sequential process of eleven sessions that uses manual and movement therapy techniques to rebalance the body’s “facial web” or “connective tissues” to improve physical performance. Joint, muscle, and nerve function are positively effected.

This sequential process attends to the historic backlog of specific and systemic injuries, stresses, and traumas that mat-down, dry-up, and prematurely age the body's vast and vital network of connective tissues. Breath, balance, mobility, coordination, and immune function limitations that can fatigue the body and overwhelm the mind are addressed globally and specifically via the connective tissue's restoration. Post-series bodies are more fluid, vital, efficient, powerful, and resilient. Post-series minds are more clear, creative, logical, and self-aware.

  • SOMASSAGE®

Somassage® is an “attitude adjustment for the body”. An elegant and focused full-body massage developed from the principles of SOMA, it lengthens and energizes while integrating connective tissue.

  • SNI® Injury Treatment Sessions

Specific sessions for injuries designed to support and rejuvenate a particular joint or body-region's ability to heal. Treatments, one or several, address range of motion,  stress/tension, or pain.

  • Treatment for Breath-Pattern Disorders

Over eleven year of working with structure and gravity, I have become increasingly intrigued with the breathing pattern issues of my clients. I have developed specific sessions to address Sleep Apnea, snoring, and insomnia and I am excited to offer this work to people needing help breathing at night. Many people suffer with these issues and other breath pattern issues like shallow breathing and "upper chest" breathing during the day and a lot can be done to restore the body's natural capacity to breath well. Good places to start are here, and my two articles here (Deconstructing Sleep Apnea and How Breathing and Better Sleep Can Change Your World?) and to call me with your questions.
